The Candle browser extension in Chrome

Candle browser extension gives you Candle's quality assessment right in your browser when you are on a site that we have information about. You can also search Candle right from the extension. If your browser is Brave or Microsoft Edge, you can install the Chrome extension below.

Candle as default search engine

We look forward to making this easier for you. In the meanwhile, here are your step-by-step guides for setting Candle as the default in various browsers.

Chrome

  1. Right-click or control-click on the Chrome address bar and select Edit Search Engines... from the context menu that opens.
  2. If you've used Candle, Chrome should find it automatically. Search for "Candle" in the search box in the upper right corner.
  3. Click the three dots (︙) to the right of the name, and select Make default. Done!

If Chrome doesn't find Candle with the above steps, you can add it manually:

  1. In the list, click on Add on the same line you see Other search engines.
    1. In the Search Engine field, enter "Candle"
    2. In the Keyword field, add "c" or "can" or anything else you want to use to trigger a Candle search (this is only used when Candle is not set as the default)
    3. In the URL with %s in place of query, enter
      https://www.candle.to/search?q=%s
  2. Find Candle in the list of Other search engines
  3. Click the three dots (︙) to the right of the name, and select Make default. Done!

Firefox

If you search through the address bar in Firefox:

  1. When you're on Candle.to (any page), click on the ellipsis symbol (⋯) in the browser address bar, and click Add Search Engine at the bottom of the menu.
  2. Navigate to your Search settings in your browser Preferences (or pasteabout:preferences#search in your Firefox address bar).
  3. In the Default Search Engine field, select Candle. Done!

If you search using the search bar in Firefox:

  1. When you're on Candle.to (any page), click on the magnifying glass icon in the search bar, and click Add "Candle" at the bottom of the menu.
  2. Navigate to your Search settings in your browser Preferences (or pasteabout:preferences#search in your Firefox address bar).
  3. In the Default Search Engine field, select Candle. Done!

Edge

  1. In your Edge browser Settings, go to Privacy > Search > Services
  2. Scroll all the way down and click on Address bar and search
  3. On the page that opens, click on Manage search engines
  4. If you've used Candle, Edge should find it automatically. Search for "Candle" in the search box in the upper right corner.
  5. Click the ellipsis symbol (⋯) to the right of Candle, and select Make default. Done!
